Kyle Wilson returns to alma mater
BOISE, Idaho – A former All-American and a 2010 National Football League First Round pick is returning to his alma mater Saturday as Kyle Wilson will raise the Blue Chaos flag moments before Boise State kicks off against Wyoming.
Â
Following an illustrious four-year in the Treasure Valley, Wilson was selected in the first round (29th overall pick) by the New York Jets, a team with which he spent five of his six NFL seasons before spending a year with the Saints before retiring from the game.
Â
While playing on The Blue, Wilson led the Broncos to three bowl games including a win in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl over Oklahoma, where he led Boise State with 10 total tackles in the game. He would go on to receive Second Team All-America honors in 2008 as a punt returner and in 2009 as a defensive back.
Â
Wilson totaled 160 tackles in his four years for Boise State with 126 solo stops and 34 assisted tackles with 10 tackles for a loss of 31 yards, including two sacks for a loss of 12 yards. He registered 11 interceptions and 27 pass break-ups in his career while forcing two fumbles, recovering a fumble and blocking a kick.
Â
He also returned 63 punts for 793 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 12.59 yards per return. His 14.2 yards per return (470 yards on 33 returns) during the 2008 season still ranks fourth in school history while his career punt return average also ranks fourth.
Â
For his efforts, Wilson garnered All-Western Athletic Conference honors in 2007 (Second Team as a DB), 2008 (First Team as a DB, Second Team as a returner) and 2009 (First Team as a DB).
Â
He was a three-time conference champion as the Broncos won WAC titles in 2006, 2008 and 2009 while competing in bowl games in all three of those years.
Â
Wilson is set to raise the Blue Chaos flag at 3:33 p.m. with exact kickoff for the game, which is televised nationally on FS2, set for 3:35 p.m.
