
Year in Review: Scholar-Athletes of the Year
With 79 percent of Boise State student-athletes holding at least a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average and 28 Broncos carrying a 4.0 through the 2022-23 academic year, there was no shortage of qualified candidates for the Boise State Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards. Two stood above the rest and both come from the track and field program. The 2022-23 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year is David Pierce and the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award is MaLeigha Menegatti.
Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year
On the men’s side, David Pierce is this year’s award recipient. He is a spring 2023 graduate, earning a 3.52 GPA as a mechanical engineering major.
A member of the Broncos’ track & field team from 2019-23, he was an All-Mountain West during the 2022 indoor season as part of the distance medley relay.
A four-time member of the Dean’s List, he was named a Mountain West Scholar-Athlete in 2021-22 and Spring Academic All-Mountain West in 2022.
In spring 2023, he garnered College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District accolades. He was a member of the Engineering Ambassador and graduated Cum Laude.
Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year

MaLeigha Menegatti garnered the award on the women’s side. She graduated in spring 2022 with a 3.53 GPA as an accountancy major.
In 2023, she captured the Mountain West title in the 800-meters in both indoor and outdoor. She went on to earn Second-Team All-America honors in the event during the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Menegatti made the Dean’s List five times and was a four-time Mountain West Scholar-Athlete and four-time Academic All-Mountain West selection.
She earned CSC’s Academic All-District in spring 2023 and is a seven-time All-Mountain West honoree on the track. She graduated Cum Laude.
