Day 3 in Greece
The Parthenon and Basketball
(Editor's Note: Each day of the Greece Foreign Tour will feature a quick journal entry summarizing each day's activities. For instant updates, follow Boise State Women's Basketball on Facebook, X/Twitter and Instagram.)
Before we can begin to recap the third day of our Greece adventure, we have to share something incredible that we as a group witnessed sitting atop the Athena Acropolis early Thursday morning.
In the midst of all the crowds, we collectively saw something that we had all previously believed to be a myth.
We saw the ghost of Medusa.

Seriously look at the hair!!! All jokes aside, we had an eventful day in Athens. Following an INCREDIBLE buffet breakfast at our hotel, we hopped on the bus and made the mile-drive up to The Parthenon. Along the way, we picked up a local tour guide, who gave us a guided tour of the ancient attraction. The wind ruining a few selfies was the only complaint.
A picture is worth a thousand words, so take a look at the photos we captured of the excursion!

If you read yesterday’s entry, you know that our athletic trainer, Matt Schofield, was one of two people in the travel party who had previously been to Greece. He graciously (needed insane amounts of peer pressure) shared an image of when he visited the Parthenon the first time. We can’t confirm that it’s the same person.

We spent two hours at acropolis before heading down and getting ready for our game. We had a pregame meal, before heading over to Kleisto Gymnastirio Pavlos kai Thanasis Giannakopoulos. Yes, this gym is owned by Giannis’ brother.
The gym is adjoined with a rugby stadium and if we weren’t in Greece, we would have thought we were in Ireland. Green clovers align nearly everywhere, and team graffiti is everywhere – both inside and outside the stadium.
Prior to tipoff, we exchanged gifts with our opponent, and then took a team picture before the game. Then we put the ball down (10 points to any Bronco fan who understands that reference).
From the tip, it was clear the Blue and Orange were ready to play against someone other than themselves. The Broncos jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead within the first two minutes of action, and didn’t allow their opponent to score until they had already scored 16 points. Natalie Pasco drilled two 3-pointers and reached double figures in the opening period, as Boise State led 33-8 after the first.
Libby Hutton notched eight points in the second quarter, as the Broncos extended their lead to a 65-10 halftime advantage. They never looked back, eventually winning 108-20.
Five players scored in double figures, led by Pasco’s 17 points. The senior went 7-of-8 from the floor and drained both of her 3-point attempts. Freshman Mason Borcherding added 14 points while also making seven of her attempts. Tatum Thompson recorded 13 points and seven rebounds while Dani Bayes and Libby Hutton each netted 11.
Head coach Gordy Presnell had this to say following the win.
Lotta positives from that ??????!#BleedBlue | #WhatsNext pic.twitter.com/NeVZXt63JX

The Broncos will return to action for their final game of the trip tomorrow at 10 a.m. MT. (7 p.m. in Athens). Before that, the team will participate in an early-morning community service project before taking a driving tour of Athens. Come back tomorrow for the full-day recap!
