ABOUT MEMPHIS:Â The Tigers turned their season around the past eight weeks to earn an at-large bid and the No. 9 seed in the West Region. Memphis enters the NCAA Tournament at 21-10, winners of 12 of its last 14 games and runners-up at the American Athletic Conference Tournament.
SERIES HISTORY:Â This is the second time Boise State and Memphis have met. The first meeting was in last season's National Invitation Tournament, a game which the Tigers won 59-56.
BRONCOS IN THE BIG DANCE:Â Boise State is making its eighth trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history, including the third under head coach Leon Rice. Rice guided Boise State to the tournament in 2013 and 2015 - the first at-large selections in program history. Boise State also qualified in 1976, 1988, 1993, 1994 and 2008. The Broncos are looking for their first NCAA Tournament win.
SEASON FOR THE AGES:Â Boise State has set program records for total wins (27), conference wins (15) and consecutive wins (14) on its way to winning the Mountain West regular-season title outright and capturing the Mountain West Tournament crown - both firsts for the program. The eight seed Boise State earned for the 2022 NCAA Tournament is the highest in program history and marks the first time the Broncos will play as the higher seed in an NCAA Tournament game.
MAKE IT A DOUBLE:Â Boise State became the fifth team in Mountain West history to win an outright regular-season championship and the conference tournament title in the same season - San Diego State (2006), New Mexico (2013), Nevada (2017), San Diego State (2021) and Boise State (2022). This is the third time in school history that the Broncos have captured the regular season and conference tournament championships in the same season (1975-76 and 1987-88), and just the second time the regular-season title was an outright championship - 1987-88 and 2021-22.
EARNING A BID:Â Boise State is making its eighth all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament, including its third under Leon Rice. The Broncos have qualified for 17 national postseason tournaments in the program's 54-year history as a four-year institution. Seven of those appearances have come under Rice, currently in his 12th season. Rice's teams have claimed four of the school's seven postseason tournament victories.
STAY HOT:Â Boise State has won 24 of its last 27 games. The Broncos started the season 3-4, which Leon Rice declared as rock bottom. Since the start of December, the Broncos have notched 12 wins against Quad 1 and Quad 2 opponents and jumped nearly 50 spots in KenPom rankings.
