Bronco Duo Named To All-Tournament Team

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - After helping the Boise State softball team to a third-place finish at the WAC Tournament, senior Kathy Cox and freshman Lela Work were named to the 2010 All-Tournament team. Cox set a WAC Tournament record with four home runs in the tournament while Work boasted a 0.00 ERA in the circle.
Cox, a senior from Gresham, Ore., capped a spectacular 2010 season with four more homers this week to boost her school record total to 21 home runs this year. Cox continuously came up big in clutch situations as she hit three homers in a pair of tight games against Fresno State while two of her home runs tied up games in the sixth inning or later. Cox hit .444 in the tournament with eight RBI and 6 runs scored. In her last at-bat of her career, Cox smashed a home run off the scoreboard in right center that closed the gap to 6-5 against Fresno State.
Work, a freshman from Lake City, Idaho, was light out during her two appearances in the circle. The native Idahoan shut the door on the New Mexico State offense when she came out of the bullpen in the third inning. She held the Aggies to just one hit through five innings and earned the win as the Broncos completed a 9-8 comeback. Work tossed three more innings out of the bullpen in the Broncos final game against Fresno State. She allowed just one more hit to the Bulldogs and no earned runs, giving her a 0.00 ERA over eight innings pitched in the tournament. Work also struck out eight batters and limited opponents to a .074 bating average while walking two. The Bronco pitching staff allowed no home runs in the tournament and put together a 3.74 ERA.
The Broncos finished the season with a 29-32 overall record and 3-2 in the conference tournament. Hawaii, the WAC regular season champions, also captured the WAC Tournament title. Kelly Majam was named the tournament MVP.
