Huber Field at Dona Larsen Park
Huber Field at Dona Larsen Park has served as the home of Boise State softball since its opening in the fall of 2012. The facility, which is adjacent to Ed Jacoby Track at Dona Larsen Park, is located just blocks off the main campus near the corner of Broadway and Warm Springs Avenues.
- The complex features a grass field that is 200 feet down the lines and 210 feet at center field. It has bleacher seating for 380 fans and berm seating in the outfield for another 300 spectators.
- Each oversized dugout is connected to a large bullpen and batting cages.
- Other features: press box, concession stand, restrooms, maintenance shop, team room and locker rooms.
- The site has local historical meaning and has been used for various purposes throughout its long history. The location has served as an athletic facility on several occasions, as well as the site of Boise’s former East Junior High School.
- The site was originally put into use in 1911 as Cody Park featuring facilities for various types of athletic endeavors for community use including baseball and football fields.
- In November of 1924 the Boise School District purchased the location and renamed it Public School Field, becoming the home of the Boise High School football team.Â
- Youth and adults alike used the field for many noteworthy athletic and community events until 1953 when East Junior High School was constructed on the site.
- When Boise Junior College began competing in athletics in 1932, it used Public School Field for its football games, as well as track and field events. In the fall of 1940, the Broncos moved to College Field on the current Boise State campus.
- In 2009 Boise State University took possession of the site when the junior high was replaced with a new school at a different location.Â
- The University began renovating the site after receiving a major gift of $2.5 million from the David and Debra Larsen Huber Family Foundation.
- In the fall of 2012 Dona Larsen Park opened, named after Debra Huber’s mother. That fall the Boise State softball program moved into its new home named Huber Field at Dona Larsen Park.
- The first Boise State softball game at Huber Field was on March 16, 2013.
- Huber Field at Dona Larsen Park is the second home of Boise State softball replacing the original home, Mountain Cove Softball Field near Fort Boise Park.
