COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State graduate and Eagle, Idaho, native Kendra Noneman was named the 2019-20 Mountain West Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league announced Thursday. Noneman, a decorated student and all-conference thrower on the Broncos' women's track and field team, is the third Bronco in as many years to win the highest honor presented to a student-athlete by the conference. The award includes a $2,500 postgraduate scholarship.

Noneman's former track and field teammate Allie Ostrander took home the award last year. Former Bronco football student-athlete Mason Hampton was named the Mountain West Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the 2017-18 school year.

The Mountain West is the latest organization to recognize Noneman for her unparalleled credentials in the classroom, the community and competition. A May 2020 graduate of Boise State's Micron School of Materials Science and Engineering, Noneman was named a Boise State Top Ten Scholar earlier this year. One of the highest honors bestowed upon an undergraduate student, the award is given to just 10 members of each graduating class across Boise State University to recognize exceptional academic success.

Noneman has also been recognized with various scholarships and awards from such groups as: Tau Beta Phi Engineering Honor Society; AIST Northwest; the American Council of Engineering Companies; the Society of Women Engineers; the Idaho NASA Space Grant Consortium; and the National Science Foundation.

In addition to her 3.85 grade-point average, Noneman is active in the campus and surrounding communities. She has dedicated her time to numerous local and national engineering and STEM groups, educating and inspiring the next generation of scholars. Noneman also volunteered and participated in events with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Ada County Juvenile Detention Center, Rake Up Boise and Pride Parades in various cities.

A four-year letterwinner for the Broncos in throwing events, Noneman made her biggest mark during the 2019 outdoor season in the hammer throw. The Eagle, Idaho, native finished fourth at the Mountain West Championships and qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Round. She also scored at the conference championships as a sophomore. During indoor competition, Noneman placed in the top 15 at the Mountain West Championships in the weight throw each of her four seasons, including seventh-place finishes each of the last two years.

Noneman plans to pursue a doctoral degree in neural computation and machine learning at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Her academic career already includes a stop at Carnegie Mellon as a research fellow in the university's Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition in 2019. Other educational enrichment opportunities Noneman has earned and completed include internships at the NASA Ames Research Center (2017) and Applied Materials (2018).

She will continue her athletic career by competing in Olympic weightlifting competitions.

The Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award is bestowed annually to one male and one female who best exemplify the term "student-athlete" by achieving excellence in academics, athletics and community involvement over the course of their intercollegiate career. In addition to athletic achievement, recipients of the MW Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average, demonstrate leadership, and exhibit good character and conduct on and off the playing field.
