BOISE, Idaho – Boise State Athletics has a $135.7 million annual economic impact on student-athletes, taxpayers and the community in the surrounding area of Boise State's campus, the department announced through an economic impact report released on Tuesday. The economic impact report, which showed a cumulative annual economic impact of $350 million, evaluated the athletics department's impact at three different levels: a defined campus-area district, Treasure Valley and state of Idaho.
The economic impact report, which was produced by Lightcast in a Boise State Athletics-funded analysis, showcased how the athletic department influences both the lives of student-athletes and the regional economy on an annual basis. The report demonstrated how Boise State Athletics plays a key role in helping student-athletes increase their employability and achieve their individual potential as well as drawing visitors and student-athletes to the region.
In addition to the $135.7 million annual impact on the campus-area district, Boise State Athletics has a $127.3 million annual impact on the Treasure Valley and $87 million for all of Idaho. The report also determined for every $1 invested in Boise State Athletics, people in Idaho receive $2 in return.
"Boise State is the Front Porch of Idaho, and our collective TEAM plays such an important role to the campus-area district, Treasure Valley and state," said Jeramiah Dickey, Boise State Director of Athletics. "Boise State Athletics is a national brand, but to take that national brand and positively impact our community and state is an important role we do not take lightly. I'm proud of Bronco Nation in helping us show what our athletic department means to all of Idaho. We will continue to tell our story of the value we bring to the entire state, and we are proud to reflect the values of the Idahoans."
The economic impact report used a two-pronged approach that involved economic impact and an investment analysis and the results reflected the fiscal year of 2023-24 as it used data from that year.
Other highlights of the economic impact report include:
The success in competition and classroom by the Broncos has been matched by Bronco Nation and visitors from all over the world. More than 485,000 people attended a Boise State athletic event in 2024-25, which was the best attendance in the Mountain West for the second year in a row. On non-football gamedays, more than 117,000 people visited The Blue and Albertsons Stadium for special events and to see Boise State's iconic blue field. In 2024-25 alone, 18,556 people from all 50 states and nearly 50 countries came to The Blue on weekdays.
