Merritt in 12th Place at NCAA West Regional

BREMERTON, Wash. Troy Merritt of the Boise State University men’s golf team shot a 1-under 71 in the second round of the NCAA Div. I West Regional Championships, Friday, May, 16.

 

Merritt is tied for 12th with an even-par 144, heading into the third round Saturday. In the second round, the Bronco golfer started with three bogeys on the first four holes, but rallied to birdie four of the next six holes to climb back into contention.

 

To qualify for nationals, Merritt must be one of two individual golfers not on a top-10 finishing team. He currently holds a two-stroke advantage over five golfers for the final individual selection to the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships in West Lafayette, Ind., May 28-31.

 

The University of Southern California leads the west region team championship after the two rounds with 2-under 574.

 

The third round of the NCAA West Regional Championships will continue Saturday, May 16, at 8:00 a.m. (PT). Merritt is scheduled to set to tee off from hole No. 10 at 8:53 a.m. (PT).
