BRONCO TRACK AND FIELD HEADS TO SUN ANGEL CLASSIC

BOISE, Idaho The Boise State track and field team will head to Tempe, Ariz. this Friday-Saturday (April 10-11) to compete in the 30th annual Sun Angel Classic hosted by Arizona State University. Boise State will send approximately 40 student-athletes to compete in the meet, which will include teams from 41 different schools.

Teams competing at the Sun Angel:

Arizona State, Adams State, Alabama (M), Arizona, Arkansas (M), Auburn, Boise State, Boston U., Bowling Green (W), BYU, Colorado State, Columbia, Coppin State, Dartmouth, DePaul, Dickinson State, Fresno State, Houston, Illinois (W), Illinois State, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, LSU, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Minnesota, Missouri State, Montana State, New Mexico, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma (M), Rhode Island (W), Syracuse, Texas (M), USC, Utah (W), Washington, Wyoming and Xavier (Ohio).

Looking at the Broncos:

            The Boise State men enter the weekend ranked No. 26 nationally by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Bronco women have started the season with a No. 57 ranking by the USTFCCCA. After just one outdoor meet, the two teams have combined for nine marks that rank in the top-two for the Western Athletic Conference.

            Ann Noyes, a freshman from Moses Lake, Wash. (Moses Lake HS), currently holds the top conference mark in the women’s triple jump. She recorded the mark of 38-7.00 (11.76m) at the All-Idaho Cup last weekend.  Noyes is joined by Nerisha Phillip, who is ranked second in the 400-meter dash (56.35), and Sasa Kampic, who is ranked second in the javelin (157-2.00/47.90m).

            The Bronco men currently hold top conference marks in four events, with second-place marks in another two. Per Strandquist leads the 100m dash with a time of 10.70. Strandquist is also part of the men’s 4x100m relay team that has the fastest time (41.01) in the WAC thus far.

In the field events, senior Ryan Grinnell leads the WAC long jump with a mark of 24-0.25 (7.32m), while Zacharias Arnos leads the triple jump with a mark of 51-4.25 (15.65m). Arnos is also currently ranked second in the 200m dash (21.95). The men’s final top-two ranking comes in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:16.46.

            Boise State enters this weekend with two marks ranked in the top-20 nationally. For the men, Arnos’ top triple jump mark currently ranks eighth in the nation. On the women’s side, Kampic’s opening weekend javelin throw is the 20th best mark in the country through last weekend.

            The Broncos are already down to just four regular season meets remaining. The regular season will conclude with the Bronco Twilight on Friday, May 1, in Bronco Stadium. Boise State will then travel to Logan Utah for the WAC Outdoor Championships, May 13-16.
