Athlete of the Week 9/7-13: Kevin Higgs

BOISE, Idaho – Kevin Higgs led the Boise State men’s cross country team to a nearly perfect finish at the Roger Curran Invitational in Nampa, Idaho, to earn the Bronco Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 7-13. The junior from Nampa, Idaho, took the top spot in a field of 71 runners in the 6-kilometer with a time of 18 minutes, 41.23 seconds.
Higgs led a trio of Broncos to a 1-2-3 finish in their first meet of the year. Overall, the Broncos finished with only 18 points capturing the team title as well as Higgs’ individual title.
The first-place finish was the first title of Higgs’ career at Boise State. Higgs seems to have not missed a beat in the offseason as he earned a spot on the All-WAC second team in 2008 and a competed in the 10-kilometer at the NCAA West Region Championships, taking 91st out of 174 participants.
Shannon Porter also captured the individual title for the women’s cross county team in the 4-kilometer at the Roger Curran Invitational. The Broncos will return to the starting line on Sept. 26 at the Bob Firman Invitational in Eagle, Idaho.
