SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Following the lowest single-round team score of the tournament, the Boise State men's golf team made a final-round move to finish in third place at the OGIO UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate, Tuesday.

The third-place effort is the Broncos' best tournament finish in more than a year. Boise State also finished in third at the Thunderbird Invitational, Feb. 10-11, 2014.

"It was great to bounce back with two solid rounds after a sluggish start," head coach Dan Potter said. "Today was significant because we finished better. We had a good round going on a difficult golf course and we finished it off to shoot the low round of the day. We showed a level of toughness today that we'd been missing. I get excited about that kind of improvement."

The Broncos combined for a 1-under 287 at the 7,159-yard Sandpiper Golf Course, moving past Utah over the final 18 holes of the tournament. The sub-par round was the only one recorded by a team at the event.

Boise State finished with a three-round total of 879 (300-292-287, +15), three strokes back of second-place UC Riverside and five strokes back of tournament host UC Santa Barbara.

The Broncos were led by top-10 finishes from sophomore Kyle Mitsunaga and senior Ty Travis.

Mitsunaga finished tied for fifth with a 1-over 217 (76-69-72), four strokes back of tournament medalist Hunter Robinson of UC Santa Barbara.

Travis moved into the top 10 following a final-round 3-under 69, finishing tied for eighth at 219 (77-73-69, +3).

Freshman Jacob Byers just missed the top 10, finishing tied for 11th following rounds of 74-73-73 (220, +4). Sophomore Shane Allor (73-80-73--226, +10) finished tied for 20th, and freshman Tristan Rohrbaugh finished tied for 37th (80-77-76--233, +17) to round out the Bronco contingent.

Next up for Boise State is the Ping Cougar Classic in Provo, Utah, April 24-25, the final regular-season event before the Mountain West Championships, May 1-3.
