LAHAINA, Maui -- Boise State men's golf opened play at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic Friday, shooting a team score of 299 (+15) to end the day tied for 15th at the par-71 Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course in Maui.

Second-round action is set to get underway Saturday at 12:30 p.m. MT with a shotgun start.

"Today was a tough day. The wind came up right when we started on one of the hardest places on the course, and it bit us," said Boise State head coach Dan Potter. "As far as bad days go, though, this was a decent one. Connor was impressive and the others managed to scrap just enough that a good round tomorrow gets us back in the mix."

Freshman Connor Johnstone led the Broncos with a 73 (+2) Friday, finishing his round well at 1-under on the back nine. Hawaii native Donny Hopoi and freshman Mason Schulze carded matching 75s (+4), while freshman Brian Humphreys shot a 76 (+5) and senior Kyle Mitsunaga ended the day with a 79 (+8).

South Carolina leads the 24-team field after the opening round at 282 (-2), while on the individual leaderboard the Gamecocks' Keenan Huskey is tied with Clemson's Doc Redman at 66 (-5).
