LAS VEGAS (AP) San Diego State used a late first-half run to take control of an eventual 87-68 win against Boise State Thursday, in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Championship. The Aztecs (18-13) shot 54.7 percent from the field and 64.3 percent from three-point range.

San Diego State, the No. 6 seed, finished the first half on a 13-2 run, taking a 42-37 lead into the locker room. The Broncos (19-11) got within two at 46-44. A 10-3 San Diego State run over the next 4:19 put the margin back at nine. The third-seeded Broncos would get no closer than eight the rest of the way.

Nick Duncan and Paris Austin led the Broncos with 15 points each. Duncan was 5-for-8 from three-point range.

Malik Pope led the Aztecs with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Max Hoetzel came off the bench to to add 21 points, including 5-of-6 three-point shooting.

The No. 3 seed is now 8-10 all-time in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Championship. Boise State is 0-3 all-time against San Diego State in the Mountain West Championship, suffering losses in the quarterfinals of the 2012, 2013 and 2017 tournaments.

Boise State will await its postseason fate, with the majority of invitations handed out Sunday.
