BOISE, Idaho - Boise State running back Alexander Mattison was named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in his career, the conference announced Monday.
Mattison, in Saturday's Mountain Division-clinching 33-24 win over No. 14/15 Utah State, posted the second 200-yard rushing game of his career, hitting the mark exactly and scoring three touchdowns on a career-high 37 carries. Mattison scored each of Boise State's first two touchdowns, helping stake the Broncos to a 20-14 halftime lead, then iced the contest with four seconds to play on a one-yard plunge.
The San Bernardino, Calif., native pounded away at the Utah State defense all night, only being thrown for a loss of yardage on one of his 37 carries, and that being just a one-yard loss. His 37 carries were the third-most in Boise State single-game history, and his 200-yard game marked his fifth game of at least 100 yards on the ground this season, and fourth in the last five contests.
For the year, Mattison leads the Mountain West with 16 rushing touchdowns, and is second with 1,215 rushing yards.
No. 19/20 Boise State will host No. 25/23 Fresno State Saturday at 5:45 p.m. in the Mountain West Championship Game. The game will be televised on ESPN.
