WHAT IS HAPPENING
- Boise State is sending one swimmer, senior Abbey Sorensen, to the 2019 NCAA National Swimming and Diving Championships being held this week at Austin, Texas.
- The championships run Wednesday through Saturday at the University of Texas' Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
BOISE STATE AT THE NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
- This is the eighth time that Boise State has been represented at the NCAA Championships in the program's 13-year history, the first since 2017.
REPRESENTING BOISE STATE
- Abbey Sorensen is the lone Bronco representing Boise State at the NCAA National Championships.
- Sorensen qualified based on her career-best time of 1:53.74 in the 200-yard backstroke, which she swam to win the MW championship at Minneapolis, Minn., in February. Sorensen's time was a NCAA B standard and is ranked 37th overall nationally.
- Sorensen will compete in the 200-yard backstroke prelims at 8 a.m. (Mountain) Saturday morning, then, if she advances, in the finals that night.
- This will be her third trip to the national championships where she was an honorable-mention All-American in 2017 as a member of the Broncos' 200-yard freestyle relay team that placed 12th.
- Unlike the first two trips, Sorensen will be competing as an individual for the first time at the national meet racing in the 200 backstroke.
- Prior to this year, Sorensen had competed as a member of four relay teams. In 2016 she was a member of the qualifying 200-yard freestyle relay team, while in 2017 she swam in the 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams.
- She is the fourth Bronco all-time to reach the NCAA National Championships three or more times in a career.
- Sorensen is the two-time defending Mountain West champion in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke.
