
Sorensen Sets Boise State and Mountain West Record at NCAA National Championships

The senior from Draper, Utah, swam a career-best, school and conference record in the 200-yard backstroke to place 19th nationally.
AUSTIN, Texas - Boise State senior Abbey Sorensen finished her time at the NCAA National Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday morning when she swam a career-best, Boise State and Mountain West record time of 1:53.28 in the 200-yard backstroke. Sorensen was the lone Bronco at the championships this year which were ran Wednesday through Saturday at Austin, Texas.
Sorensen entered the meet with the 37th-ranked time — a then career best — nationally in the 200 backstroke with a school and career-best 1:53.74. Today, she set a new personal best, in addition to setting the Boise State and conference record for the event with a 1:53.28. The senior wrapped up her Boise State career by finishing 18 positions better than her No. 37 seed entering the meet taking 19th overall out of 57 participants.
The Bronco just missed qualifying for the finals, she needed to place in the top-16 during the prelims to advance.
Earlier in the week, Sorensen also competed in the 100-yard backstroke clocking a time of 52.92 to place 37th overall and a 22.65 in the 50-yard freestyle to place tied for 40th.
The 2019 NCAA National Swimming and Diving Championships marked the end of the season for Boise State.
