Broncos Qualify 18 for NCAA West Preliminary Round

Broncos to send third-most amount of athletes to qualifying round for the national championship in program history

BOISE, Idaho — The road to the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas runs through Sacramento, Calif., and the Boise State track and field team will be sending 18 student-athletes to the Capitol of California, May 23-25.

The Broncos 18 athletes to the NCAA West Preliminary Round, the most Boise State will send to the qualifying round for the national championships since the program sent 20 in 2013, and the third-most athletes qualified to the event in program history.

Boise State has 21 entries in the meet, spanning the sprints, middle distance, distance, throws and vertical jumps.

Addison Dehaven, Clare O'Brien and Allie Ostrander will be doubling up in Sacramento. Both Dehaven and O'Brien will be contesting the 5,000-meter/10,000-meter double, while Ostrander will be attempting the 3,000-meter steeplechase/5,000-meter double for the third-consecutive season. Ostrander is a two-time defending national champion in the steeplechase.

Dehaven will be joined in the distance events by Elijah Armstrong (5,000-meter), Riley Campbell (10,000-meter) and Ahmed Muhumed (5,000-meter). Both Claire Graves and Olivia Johnson will also race the 5,000-meter on the women's side.

After making the national championship in the 1,500-meter and 800m, respectively, both Alexis Fuller and Kristie Schoffield look to accomplish the feat again in 2019.

With the 29th-fastest time in the West in the 100m, Bryce Kirby will be making the second appearance of his career at the West Preliminary Round.

Dafni Georgiou (100m hurdles), Justin Stattner (pole vault), Henry Mong (1,500-meter), Jacob Grinwis (800m) and Maxine Paholek (3,000-meter steeplechase) will be making their first appearance at the regional meet.
