BOISE, Idaho -Â Redshirt senior Eric Sachse's record-setting Boise State debut was recognized Monday morning as he was named Mountain West Co-Special Team Player of the Week. Sachse shared the honor with Nevada's Brandon Talton.
He becomes the first Boise State placekicker to claim the honor since Dan Goodale on Nov. 10, 2014.
Sachse, a transfer from Division III Trinity College who earned a scholarship after winning the placekicking job at the end of Fall Camp, matched the Boise State single-game record with five made field goals in last Saturday's 36-31 win at Florida State. The Holden, Mass., native connected from 36 yards out on his first two attempts, then subsequently cashed in from 41, 26, and 30 yards out. He also was perfect on all three PAT attempts to cap an 18-point day.
He hit a pair of field goals in the final 2:51 of the first half, the second of those coming as the half expired, to pull Boise State to within 12 at 31-19. Sachse then provided the final points of the contest, nailing a 30-yarder with 7:27 to play.
Boise State (1-0) hosts Marshall (1-0) in Friday's home opener at Albertsons Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
