Five Bronco Programs Honored by NCAA

BOISE, Idaho – Five Boise State Athletics programs earned Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA Tuesday, for having multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores in the top 10 percent of their respective sports nationally. The honored teams include women's basketball, beach volleyball, men's golf, women's golf and gymnastics.
Boise State led all Mountain West schools in Public Recognition Awards for the third straight year.
"These awards are a reflection of our commitment to developing well-rounded young men and women," said Executive Director of Athletics Curt Apsey. "Our coaches do a great job of identifying high-achieving student-athletes to become Broncos, and our entire staff provides an environment that allows them to succeed on and off the field. Our academic support staff members are irreplaceable and the results are a reflection of their hard work coupled with the ability and dedication of our student-athletes."
Women's golf has received the Public Recognition Award each of the last seven years. This is the fourth-straight honor for men's golf, while gymnastics and beach volleyball have each received the award the last three years. This is the first such honor for women's basketball.
Boise State teams have combined for 36 honors during the 15 years of the NCAA's Public Recognition Award program, including at least one in each of the last 12 years. At least four Bronco teams have been recognized each of the last four years, including a school- and conference-record six programs in 2018 and 2019.
The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation each semester or academic term and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. The most recent multi-year APR scores are based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
The full APR report, which will include 2018-19 scores for all teams, will be released by the NCAA next Tuesday (May 19).
