Dear BAA members,

My name is Melissa Symmes and I played for the Boise State Women's Soccer Team. I am graduating this May with a degree in environmental studies and a double minor in biology and sustainability.

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has given me the opportunity to be a part of the Bronco family these past four years. When I was going through the recruiting process I knew that I wanted to be a part of a program that allowed me to represent something bigger than myself. I found that at Boise State. I chose Boise State because of the community that surrounds the school. It not only gave me a feeling of belonging, but I felt the culture and love that everyone around the school embodies. I knew I wanted to be a part of it.

Thinking back to freshman year, I guess my parents were right… time really does fly by. From going to Spain as a team my freshman year, to winning back-to-back Mountain West conference titles my junior and senior year, I could never imagine how much I would miss this place once I was gone. Due to Covid-19 my semester came to an end a little faster than I expected. However, even now I am grateful for my experience and all the people who have made my time at Boise State something to cherish forever.

Thank you for giving me a family that will always support me and cheer me on through the adventures of life. The coaching staff and athletic trainers will always be a part of my life and I think that is pretty unique to the culture that Boise State has created. Thank you for also bringing my best friends into my life. The people who surround Boise State have made this experience one that will follow me wherever I go in this world. Thinking of all the memories it is hard to pick a favorite. I can smile because the memories that I formed both on and off the field have been a privilege that only could have happened at Boise State. Along with that, I wanted to give a special thank you for giving me the opportunity to participate in community service and internships around Boise State. From the annual Make A Wish event, to the four years I was able to serve as an active member on SAAC, I would not be the person I am today without these opportunities that you have given me.

I can't imagine where I would be if not been at Boise State. Boise State has given me the ability to compete at the highest level of college athletics while enjoying the journey with my closest friends. I am going to miss all the fun team activities that we would have throughout the summer and leading up to preseason. I will miss waking up every morning knowing that I will be with my closest friends and team every day. Athletics allow for experiences that are only available to those who have been a part of it. I am grateful to have been one of the ones to represent the blue and orange.

During my time here, Boise State Soccer won back-to-back conference titles, as well as, secured a placement in the NCAA tournament through winning the conference tournament. Both of these achievements are only a few of the Mountain West records that were broken during my time here. Others include leading NCAA with team wins and having a team average GPA higher than a 3.5.

As I close out my last few weeks being a Bronco I reminisce about the memories that I made here. Without you, none of this would have been possible. Thank you for giving me the memories that will last me a lifetime. Thank you for the blessings that I have had from being a student athlete at Boise State. Looking back on my time here I will not only remember the wins or the celebrations in the locker room. I will remember the people who I shared every morning and night with. I will remember the community and the love that surrounds the culture of Boise State. I will miss the daily student- athlete life and the opportunities that came from it. I have played many soccer games in my life. However, the soccer games in the Boise State jersey will be a memory that only those lucky enough to experience will understand how amazing it really is.

Thank you for everything. Thank you for the best four years a college student-athlete could have. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of the Bronco family and for allowing me to represent something larger than myself. I am truly grateful for the knowledge and wisdom that I have learned from being a student athlete at Boise State and the people I was able to share it all with.

Thank you for the adventure of a lifetime. Here is to the next generation of Broncos.
