BOISE, Idaho – Boise State redshirt senior Avery Williams has been named a Consensus All-American.
He is the third Bronco in school history to earn the honor, joining offensive lineman Ryan Clady (2007) and offensive tackle Nate Potter (2011).
Williams earned his place as a kick returner/all-purpose player. He was named first-team All-American on four of the five teams recognized for consensus status.
The Pasadena, Calif., native was the kick returner on the Football Writers Association of America and the Walter Camp Football Foundation teams. He was the top return specialist by The Sporting News and the all-purpose player on the American Football Coaches Association's team. He also picked up a third-team honor from the Associated Press as an all-purpose player.
Other All-America teams Williams has been named to this season include Phil Steele and USA Today (first team, kick returner), The Athletic (second team, all-purpose) and CBS Sports (second team, punt returner and second team, kick returner). His six first-team honors and 10 overall are both Boise State records.
Williams leads the nation this season with four special teams touchdowns, scoring on a pair of kickoff returns and two punt returns. He is the only player to rank in the top 20 nationally in both punt returns (third, 15.3 average) and kickoff returns (12th, 28.1).
