COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State redshirt freshman quarterback Taylen Green was named both the Mountain West Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week following his five-touchdown performance against Utah State (Nov. 25), the conference announced Monday.
Green was 14-for-23 for 220 yards passing and four touchdowns, adding 91 yards and a touchdown on the ground in the Broncos' 42-23 victory over the Aggies.
He threw three of his four touchdown passes during the second quarter, including connecting with redshirt freshman wide receiver Eric McAlister for a pair of scores. Green also completed a 50-yard strike to redshirt sophomore wide receiver Latrell Caples, marking the longest-scoring pass by a Bronco this season.
The Lewisville, Texas native secured his fourth touchdown passing in the third quarter, finding redshirt senior defensive tackle Scott Matlock for six points.
Green dashed 91 yards for his final score of the morning, racing down the left sideline for the longest run from scrimmage in program history.
After taking over the starting quarterback position against San Diego State five weeks into the season, Green racked up six MW weekly awards – four freshman of the week honors and two offensive player of the week awards.
His half-dozen accolades during the 2022 season marked the most among all student-athletes in the conference and doubled the three individuals tied for second, including Bronco placekicker Jonah Dalmas.
Next, Boise State hosts the Mountain West Championship, squaring off against West Division Champion Fresno State on The Blue, Saturday, Dec. 3. The Broncos and the Bulldogs are slated to kick at 2 p.m. MT, and the game will be nationally televised on FOX.
