Taylen Green - Frisco Bowl MVP

Texas Connection Powers Broncos to Frisco Bowl Victory

12/18/2022 12:20:00 AM | Football

FRISCO, Texas - A quartet of second-half touchdowns from Texas natives Taylen Green, Ashton Jeanty and Eric McAlister rallied Boise State from a 10-6 halftime deficit for a 35-32 victory against North Texas in the Frisco Bowl, Saturday night at Toyota Stadium.

With the win, Boise State finished the season 10-4, its 18th 10-win season since joining the Football Bowl Subdivision in 1996. In that span, Boise State is tied for second nationally for most 10-win seasons with Alabama and Oklahoma, trailing only Ohio State's 20 such seasons.

Green, a redshirt freshman quarterback from nearby Lewisville, Texas, accounted for three touchdowns - two on the ground and one through the air - and was named the game's offensive MVP. Green was 13-for-22 for 173 yards, while adding a career-high 119 rushing yards on 12 carries.

Sixth year linebacker Ezekiel Noa captured defensive MVP honors. Noa recorded six tackles, including one for loss, and intercepted a pass in the first quarter, returning it 52 yards to set up Boise State's first score.

After being kept out of the end zone in the first half, Boise State marched down the field on its first possession after halftime. Green capped it off with a three-yard touchdown run to give the Broncos their first lead of the game and a two-point conversion made it 14-10.

The lead changed hands four more times in the third quarter. Green's 24-yard touchdown pass to fellow Texan McAlister put the Broncos on top 21-17. North Texas responded less than 90 seconds later to retake the lead before Green found the end zone with his legs again. His 19-yard scamper put Boise State ahead 28-24 with 25 seconds to play in the third quarter. The Broncos did not relinquish the advantage.

Jeanty, a freshman running back playing in his hometown of Frisco, Texas, carried the ball 28 times for a Boise State postseason-record 178 yards and one touchdown. His score came from one yard out on a fourth down with 12:05 left in the game and put the Broncos ahead 35-24.

Junior kicker Jonah Dalmas accounted for all of the Broncos' first-half points, connecting on a pair of field goals in the second quarter.

Dalmas' 24-yard attempt to open the scoring for Boise State was set up by Noa's interception. Dalmas' 37-yard field goal culminated a six-play 55-yard drive with 4:43 remaining in the half.
