IRVING, Texas – Boise State offensive lineman John Ojukwu was announced as a nominee for the 2022 William V. Campbell Trophy, the National Football Foundation (NFF) released Thursday.
The award recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.
Nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee each, candidates for the award must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, an outstanding football ability as a first-team player and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.
Ojukwu was selected to the 2022 Preseason All-Mountain West Team. He earned first-team all-conference accolades in 2021, starting all 12 games at left tackle for the Broncos last season, extending his streak to 29-consecutive starts.
Ojukwu's nomination for the William V. Campbell award marked his fourth preseason accolade this season. He is also a candidate for the Outland and Wuerffel Trophies and was named to the Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List.
The Boise native looks to join former Broncos Riley Whimpey, Kekaula Kaniho and Mason Hampton as semifinalists for the award in recent years. Whimpey was named a semifinalist in 2021, Kaniho in 2020 and Hampton earned the honor in 2017.
