COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Dani Bayes was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the conference announced, Monday. The award marks the second straight week a Bronco has earned the award, and the fourth time overall this season.
The Brisbane, Australia native came out on fire in Boise State's win over San Jose State on Saturday, scoring 16 of her career-high 19 points in the first half. Bayes finished 7-of-14 from the field and 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. The freshman also added three rebounds, two assists and a steal in 35 minutes of play.
With the recognition Bayes becomes the third Bronco to be named the MW Freshman of Week this season, on the year the most from any team in a single season since the conference started recognizing the award last year. A Boise State player has won the award four times so far– Natalie Pasco won the award on Nov. 21 and Dec. 26, while Mya Hansen earned the honor on Dec. 5. No other team in the conference has won the award more than once.Â
Boise State (6-8, 1-0) will hit the hardwood again on Saturday, Jan. 7 against Utah State in Logan, Utah. The game will tip off at 2 p.m. MT and be broadcast on the MW Network.
