Frazier to continue in current role as program enters 2024
BOISE, Idaho – Boise State alumnus Jabril Frazier will continue his career on The Blue in 2024 as head coach Spencer Danielson announced his retention on the Broncos coaching staff.
Â
Formerly a defensive graduate assistant at Boise State, Frazier was promoted to a full-time position last December. With Danielson taking over the program, he will remain on staff as the EDGE coach.
"Jabril Frazier is as hard-working and dedicated to success as anyone," Danielson said. "He is a relentless worker that knows what success at Boise State means because he has lived it. He has done a great job with our EDGE position to date and I am excited he will continue developing that group with the disruptive force and speed for which it is known."
Â
In his first season as a full-time coaching staff member, he mentored Jayden Virgin's breakout season where Virgin finished the year ranked 17th in the country in fumbles recovered (2) and contributed to Ahmed Hassanein's standout campaign. The first Division I football player from Egypt, Hassanein recorded a sack in nine straight games, the longest streak for an FBS player since 2015. He would finish the year with 12.5 sacks, ranking sixth in the nation.
Â
Frazier was elevated to the role following two years as a graduate assistant. In 2022, the Broncos ranked in the top 20 nationally in passing defense (sixth, 167.7 ypg), passing efficiency defense (eighth, 109.70), total defense (ninth, 292.5 ypg), red zone touchdowns allowed (11th, 16), red zone scores allowed (tied-13th, 28), first downs allowed (15th, 204), scoring defense (17th, 19.5 ppg) and third down defense (17th, 31.5%).
Â
In 2021, Frazier assisted a defensive unit that ranked 12th in the country in scoring difference, allowing just 19.0 ppg while the 22 turnovers forced ranked 26th nationally. The 2020 season saw the Broncos record 18 sacks in a seven-game season, including a half dozen by newcomer defensive end Shane Irwin.
Â
A two-time All-Mountain West honoree, including a first-team selection as a redshirt senior in 2018, Frazier made 28 starts in his four years with the Broncos as a STUD. He recorded 18-career sacks among his 24.5 tackles-for-loss.
Â
Frazier notched four tackles (three solo) and one pass break up in a victory over Fresno State in the 2017 Mountain West Championship. He averaged over five tackles per game during his last six contests of his senior season. Following his Boise State career, he signed a free agent contract and took part in training camp with the New York Jets in 2019.
