LAS VEGAS – Boise State beach volleyball senior Emily Garus was awarded $12,500 in tuition from the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation and Dr. Pepper as part of the Go Teach Dr. Pepper Tuition Giveaway, the Mountain West announced at the football conference championship, Saturday.

Each year, the Go Teach Dr. Pepper Tuition Giveaway awards $2,500 in tuition to up to 150 student-athletes, and 11 grand-prize recipients receive an additional $10,000 – one student-athlete per conference.

Garus is one of the 11 student-athletes who was awarded the $10,000 grand prize. The award also marks the second-straight year a Boise State student-athlete has been the conference's recipient of the $10,000 scholarship after Bronco gymnast Erin Morden was the recipient last year.

In its fourth year, the giveaway is part of a seven-year effort between the CFP Foundation and Dr. Pepper, awarding more than $1.5 million in tuition to student-athletes looking to become teachers. This fund is in addition to Dr. Pepper's Tuition Giveaway program and includes all 10 FBS conferences, Notre Dame and HBCUs.

Garus, a native of Boise, Idaho, is an elementary education major with a middle school mathematics endorsement. She plans to graduate in December of 2024.
