Former Bronco DeMarcus Lawrence Nominated for Walter Payton Man of the Year Award

NEW YORK – Former Boise State Bronco and current Dallas Cowboy DeMarcus Lawrence has been nominated for the 2023 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, the NFL announced on Tuesday. Lawrence, an All-American at Boise State and All-Pro in Dallas, is the Cowboys' representative for this season's award.
A defensive end from Aiken, S.C., Lawrence was named first-team All-Mountain West twice and Walter Camp All-America Second Team once during his time as a Bronco. He finished the 2013 campaign with 20.5 TFLs, tied for the sixth-most in the country. In 2012, he led the Blue and Orange to a MW title and No. 14 ranking in the final USA Today Coaches Poll. The Broncos won the Las Vegas Bowl, 28-26, over Washington. He finished that season with 13.0 TFLs and 9.5 sacks, both team-highs.
In 2014, he was selected in the second round of the NFL Draft, going to the Dallas Cowboys with the 34th overall pick. A 10-year veteran of the Cowboys, Lawrence has helped Dallas to five postseason berths. He was named second-team All-Pro in 2017 and is a three-time Pro Bowl selection.
The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award recognizes an NFL player for his excellence on and off the field. The award was established in 1970. It was renamed in 1999 after the late Hall of Fame Chicago Bears running back, Walter Payton. Each team nominates one player who has had a significant positive impact on his community.
Fans can vote on X, formerly known as Twitter, by posting the hashtag #WPMOYChallenge along with the last name/handle of their chosen nominee or by voting directly HERE.
Representing the best of the NFL's commitment to philanthropy and community impact, 32 players are selected as their team's Man of the Year and become eligible to win the national award.
The winner of the award each year receives a $250,000 donation to the charity of his choice. All 32 nominees receive up to a $55,000 donation to their charity of choice. All donations are courtesy of the NFL Foundation and Nationwide. The winner of this year's Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award will be announced live at NFL Honors on Thursday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. MT on CBS.
