BOISE, Idaho – Latrell Caples was tabbed to the 2024 Comeback Player of the Year Award Watch List, the College Sports Communicators, Associated Press and Fiesta Bowl Organization announced. The wide receiver is one of 58 players eligible for the award.
Caples has 12 receptions for 156 yards this season, ranking third on the team in both categories. His long reception of 36 yards came against Georgia Southern on Aug. 31, setting up a Boise State touchdown in the 56-45 win. He also has 14 punt return yards. The redshirt senior missed the entire 2023 season due to injury. In 2022, he was the team's leading receiver, recording 549 yards and four touchdowns on 51 catches.
Since 2018, the Comeback Player of the Year Award has recognized college football student-athletes for overcoming injury, illness or other circumstances. At the conclusion of each season, in a vote by a panel of college football writers, editors and sports information directors, three college football student-athletes are honored as Comeback Player of the Year Award winners at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.

Led by Spencer Danielson in his first full season, Boise State looks to become the first Mountain West program to win back-to-back championships since San Diego State did so in 2015-16. Achieving such a feat will put Boise State in the discussion for the new, expanded, 12-team College Football Playoff format beginning this fall. Last year, Danielson became the first coach in college football history to win a conference championship with an interim title.
