11/16/2024 9:47:00 PM | Football

SAN JOSE, Calif. - No. 13 Boise State overcame an early 14-point hole to rally past San Jose State, 42-21, Saturday night at CEFCU Stadium.

Trailing 14-0 early in the second quarter, the Broncos (9-1, 6-0 Mountain West) outscored the Spartans (6-4, 3-3 MW) 42-7 over the remainder of the contest to come away victorious.

Ashton Jeanty added to his Hei2man resume, rushing for 159 yards and three touchdowns while breaking the program's single-season rushing record with 1,893 rushing yards. The Boise State defense also showed out, forcing four turnovers in the win.

Things looked dicey early for the Broncos, as San Jose State jumped out to a 14-0 advantage early in the second quarter. The Broncos (9-1, 6-0 MW) made a huge fourth down stop in the red zone, propelling a 93-yard scoring drive capped by a Maddux Madsen 4-yard rushing touchdown. Boise State would even the score with 36 seconds left in the half when Jeanty scored his first of three touchdowns from two yards out.

San Jose State came out of the locker room with a nine-play, 98-yard drive to retake the lead early in the second half. Boise State answered the call, with Madsen finding Matt Lauter for a 17-yard touchdown reception midway through the third quarter to once again tie the game.

The Blue and Orange turned defense into offense, converting a fourth-down fumble recovery to a 5-yard Jeanty rushing touchdown to give Boise State its first lead of the night. The junior broke away from multiple defenders and scored from 36 yards out to give the Broncos a 28-21 advantage entering the fourth quarter.

Jeanty added to the attack, giving Boise State a two-score advantage with his third score of the night when he found the end zone from five yards with 2:33 remaining in the contest. Davon Banks put the exclamation mark on the game, taking a 70-yard interception to the house to give Boise State a 42-21 victory.
