BOISE, Idaho – Former Boise State specialist Kyle Brotzman will raise the Blue Chaos flag ahead of No. 11 Boise State's regular season finale against Oregon State on Friday.
Â
Brotzman (2007-10) began his career as a walk-on, trying out for the team prior to the 2007 season. The Meridian native went on to have a successful tenure with the Broncos as both a kicker and a punter. He was a key member to Boise State's 2010 Fiesta Bowl victory, throwing a 30-yard pass on a fake punt on fourth down that set up the eventual game winning touchdown.
Â
"I'm extremely stoked to get the opportunity to raise the Blue Chaos flag and get Bronco Nation going," Brotzman said. "Our fans are second to none. I can't wait to see them getting after it on Friday."
Brotzman's name is scattered all over the Boise State record book. He held the program record with 439 career points until Jonah Dalmas broke the record earlier this season, and still holds the career PAT record with 238, leading Dalmas by 18. He has drilled four 50-yard field goals in his career, tied for the third-most in program history.
A punter, Brotzman also held the Bronco record for punting average in a single season (45.8), until James Ferguson-Reynolds (49.7) broke it last year. His career punting average of 44.6 is also second behind Ferguson-Reynolds (45.2).
"This team is so much fun to watch," Brotzman said. "I love what this team has been able to do so far this season. It's great for those guys, the school, and this town in general."
Following his career with the Broncos, Brotzman played for the Utah Blaze of the Arena Football League for three seasons (2011-13). He also had stints with the Jacksonville Sharks, Spokane Empire and Idaho Horsemen.
Â
"I take great pride in being from Boise State," Brotzman said. "I've gained a family of brothers for life. I got the opportunity to carry on a winning tradition and win championships. I love Bleeding Blue!"
