Seven sports teams rank in top 10% of Division I institutions, most in department history

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State Athletics recorded a multi-year all-department Academic Progress Rate (APR) score of 991 in the NCAA's most recent release of the data, director of athletics Jeramiah Dickey announced Wednesday.

"Congratulations to all our student-athletes for their on-going commitment to academic excellence and embracing the Boise State standard," said Dickey. "We will continue to focus on building an environment and providing the resources to ensure every student-athlete is supported to excel as a whole person."

Each academic year, every Division I sports team's APR is calculated using a simple and consistent formula. Scholarship student-athletes can earn one point for staying on course for a degree in their chosen major and one point for being retained (or graduating) at the end of each academic term. The most recent multi-year APR scores are based on data from the 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic years.

The Broncos multi-year score of 991 translates to each student-athlete earning 99.1 percent of the points possible over the last four-years.

Included in the NCAA's most recent release of APR figures were seven Bronco programs that recorded perfect multi-year scores of 1,000, including beach volleyball, gymnastics, softball, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's track & field, and volleyball. These teams received the 2023-24 NCAA Public Recognition Award for Ranking in Top 10% for their sport in NCAA.

Gymnastics now has ten-consecutive years with a single-year score of 1,000 and beach volleyball has earned every available APR point in the program's existence.

The football team's multi-year APR of 983 is ranked second in the Mountain West and 28th nationally among programs in the Football Bowl Subdivision.

Today's APR score follows last month's announcement that Boise State student-athletes achieved a departmental record 3.42 grade point average (GPA) for the spring 2024 semester with all 18 intercollegiate athletics teams earning above a 3.0 GPA, whether semester or cumulative, during the spring semester.
