BOISE, Idaho – The Maxwell Football Club named Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty to the preseason watch list for the 88th Maxwell Award, the organization announced Monday. The Maxwell Award is presented annually to the best player in college football.
Jeanty will enter his junior season as one of the most accomplished returning players in the country. Last year, he led the FBS in yards from scrimmage per game (159.67), first downs (96) and missed tackles forced (106). He was the first FBS player since 2016 to reach 1,000 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in a 10-game span. Jeanty was tabbed Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year and recognized as an All-American by six outlets, including first team selections by College Football Network, ESPN and USA Today.
The Lone Star (Texas) High School graduate was named 2024 MW Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and garnered preseason All-America honors. Jeanty recorded 58 plays of 10+ yards during the 2023 campaign, the most among all returning FBS players. Last season, he was added to the Maxwell Award Midseason Watch List. At the time, he led the FBS in all-purpose yards (1,264). He finished the year with 1,916 all-purpose yards, ranking third in the nation despite missing two games.
The dynamic back is one of five players from the MW named to the watch list. Semifinalists for the award will be announced Nov. 12. On Nov. 26, three finalists will be selected. The recipient of the 88th Maxwell Award will be announced Dec. 12 at the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show.

Achieving such a feat will put Boise State in the discussion for the new, expanded, 12-team College Football Playoff format beginning this fall. Last year, Danielson became the first coach in college football history to win a conference championship with an interim title.
