Jeanty and Ferguson-Reynolds tabbed first team, Hassanein and Dalmas earn honorable mention from College Football News

BOISE, Idaho – Four Boise State football players continued to rack up the preseason honors as College Football News (CFN) released its 2024 Preseason All-America teams. Running back Ashton Jeanty and punter James Ferguson-Reynolds were included on the first team, with defensive end Ahmed Hassanein and kicker Jonah Dalmas garnering honorable mention.

Jeanty has also collected preseason All-America recognition from Phil Steele and Athlon Sports, in addition to Mountain West Preseason Offensive Player of the Year honors. The junior was included on the 2024 Maxwell Award Preseason Watch List after a historic sophomore season that featured All-America honors from six outlets. In 2023, Jeanty led the nation in yards from scrimmage per game (159.67) and was named MW Offensive Player of the Year. CFN ranked Jeanty 19th on its list of top-25 college football players entering the 2024 season.

Ferguson-Reynolds earned preseason All-America honors from Phil Steele and Athlon Sports after leading the nation in punting average in 2023. His average of 49.7 yards per punt ranks sixth in FBS single-season history and he was tabbed an All-American by four outlets. Jeanty and Ferguson-Reynolds are the only Group of 5 players featured on CFN's first team.

Hassanein is a member of the 2024 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List and earned mention on the East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 Watchlist. Phil Steele and Athlon Sports also recognized him on their preseason All-America lists and the MW named him Preseason Co-Defensive Player of the Year. The senior finished his 2023 campaign with 12.5 sacks, ranking sixth in the country.

Dalmas enters the 2024 campaign needing four field goals to break the MW career record and 18 to break the NCAA career record. His career total of 80 field goals is a program record and his career percentage of 88.9 is second in NCAA history. The graduate student is a 2024 Preseason All-MW selection and has collected All-MW honors in all four seasons as a Bronco.

All four players were also tabbed Preseason All-MW first team by CFN, as was offensive tackle Kage Casey. Casey is one of 75 players on the 2024 Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List and was a 2023 Freshman All-American. The redshirt sophomore was a preseason All-MW selection and earned All-MW second team last season. Boise State's total of five players on the first team ties with Fresno State and UNLV for the most in the conference.

Led by Spencer Danielson in his first full season, Boise State looks to become the first Mountain West program to win back-to-back championships since San Diego State did so in 2015-16. Achieving such a feat will put Boise State in the discussion for the new, expanded, 12-team College Football Playoff format beginning this fall. Last year, Danielson became the first coach in college football history to win a conference championship with an interim title.
