Safety recognized for efforts on field and in community

BOISE, Idaho – The Wuerffel Foundation announced the 2024 Watch List for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy, awarded annually as college football's premier award for community service. Boise State graduate student Alexander Teubner was listed among the honorees, adding to a resume that includes numerous athletic and scholastic honors.

Teubner was named All-Mountain West Honorable Mention in 2023 and was named the Defensive MVP after the hard-hitting safety made 12 tackles and recovered a fumble in a 44-20 victory over UNLV. The graduate student led the Broncos last season with 85 tackles while adding 2.5 TFLs and an interception. He was also named a nominee for the 2024 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

On Tuesday, head coach Spencer Danielson announced Teubner as one of four team captains, with the safety being joined by Jonah Dalmas, Ahmed Hassanein and Ashton Jeanty. Teubner also served as a game captain four times during the 2023 season. He is a four-time MW Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-MW selection. The Seaside, Oregon, native is also a two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District member and was named to the 2023-24 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society. Teubner received his undergraduate degree in Finance in December 2023.

Off the field, Teubner is involved in various community service opportunities. He has visited several elementary schools to speak with kids and join their recess activities. He is also a member of the Owyhee Leadership Panel, mentoring students who hold leadership roles at the high school. Teubner frequently visited patients at St. Luke's Children's Hospital and played an integral role in the team's signing of Weston Derrick, a member of Team IMPACT.

The 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy finalists and recipient will be selected by an illustrious national voting committee, including a fan vote component, and announced on ESPN's Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 12th.  The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Presentation Gala will take place February 1, 2025, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

Led by Spencer Danielson in his first full season, Boise State looks to become the first Mountain West program to win back-to-back championships since San Diego State did so in 2015-16. Achieving such a feat will put Boise State in the discussion for the new, expanded, 12-team College Football Playoff format beginning this fall. Last year, Danielson became the first coach in college football history to win a conference championship with an interim title.
