Program record-holder for field goals among 30 candidates for nation’s top kicking honor
BOISE, Idaho – Boise State kicker Jonah Dalmas was named to the Lou Groza Award Watch List for the third-straight season, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced Friday. The graduate student is the program leader in career field goals (80) and stands 18 made field goals away from breaking the NCAA career record.
Dalmas ranks second in NCAA history in career field goal percentage at 88.9 and was tabbed preseason All-America by Athlon Sports and College Football News. He is a four-time All-Mountain West selection and was named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award in 2021 and 2022. The former walk-on enters his final year of eligibility needing four made field goals to set the MW record.
In 2023, Dalmas tied the school record with a 56-yard field goal against UCF. He made 90.9% of field goal attempts from 40+ yards, tying for the top spot in the nation (minimum four attempts). The Meridian, Idaho, native has been named Lou Groza Award Star of the Week and MW Special Teams Player of the Week four times apiece.
The Lou Groza Award will announce its 20 semifinalists on Nov. 19. From this list, a panel of FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, former Groza finalists, and current NFL kickers selects the top three finalists for the award, announced on Nov. 26. That same group then selects the national winner, who will be announced on Dec. 12 during the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.

Led by Spencer Danielson in his first full season, Boise State looks to become the first Mountain West program to win back-to-back championships since San Diego State did so in 2015-16. Achieving such a feat will put Boise State in the discussion for the new, expanded, 12-team College Football Playoff format beginning this fall. Last year, Danielson became the first coach in college football history to win a conference championship with an interim title.
