Native Australian booted 23 punts inside the 20 last year

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State punter James Ferguson-Reynolds turned heads Tuesday night as he announced on his personal social media channels that he will donate $20 to a Treasure Valley-based breast cancer awareness non-profit for every punt inside the 20 this season.

Ferguson-Reynolds, last year's national statistical champion in punting average, pinned 23 punts inside the 20 last year and said Wednesday he aims for many more this season.

In his social media post, Ferguson-Reynolds presented a video with the caption saying, "G'day Bronco Nation, I'm donating $20 towards breast cancer awareness for every punt I land inside the 20 this season. This is something close to my heart, and if you'd like to donate hit the link in my bio. Go Broncos!"

He immediately had several people on Twitter reply to his post, offering to match his pledge.

In 55 punts last year, Ferguson-Reynolds averaged 49.73 yards per punt. BYU's Ryan Rehkow averaged 48.4 yards in 68 punts.

Throughout last season, Ferguson-Reynolds put 23 punts inside the 20, had a long punt of 71 yards, had eight punts called for a touchback while five of his punts were fair caught. Overall, 29 of his 55 punts (53%) measured 50 yards or longer.

Led by Spencer Danielson in his first full season, Boise State looks to become the first Mountain West program to win back-to-back championships since San Diego State did so in 2015-16. Achieving such a feat will put Boise State in the discussion for the new, expanded, 12-team College Football Playoff format beginning this fall. Last year, Danielson became the first coach in college football history to win a conference championship with an interim title.
