Becomes first non-Power 5 running back named to preseason watch list since at least 2005

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State star Ashton Jeanty was the nation's only running back named to the 2024 Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List, the Tennessee Quarterback Club Foundation announced on Wednesday.

The junior is one of three non-wide receivers on the 49-player watch list. The Biletnikoff Award is presented annually to the nation's top receiver, regardless of position. Last year, Jeanty led all NCAA running backs in receiving yards (569) and yards after catch (621. He also led the position in missed tackles forced (24) and first downs (23) on receptions. Jeanty caught five touchdowns and tallied a pair of 100-yard receiving games in 2023.

Jeanty ran for 107 yards and totaled 118 receiving yards against Air Force, becoming the first Bronco to eclipse the century mark in both categories since 2016. His 75-yard touchdown catch made him the only player in the country to register multiple rushing touchdowns of 50+ yards and multiple receiving touchdowns of 50+ yards. It also gave him over 1,000 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in a 10-game span, making him the first player to achieve this feat since 2016.

The Biletnikoff Award, founded in 1994, has been announcing a watch list since its inception. Jeanty is believed to be the first non-Power 5 running back to be named to the preseason watch list for the award since at least the turn of the century. Semifinalists for the 2024 award will be announced on Nov. 18, with three finalists chosen on Nov. 26. The 2024 Biletnikoff Award winner will be selected at The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 12.

Led by Spencer Danielson in his first full season, Boise State looks to become the first Mountain West program to win back-to-back championships since San Diego State did so in 2015-16. Achieving such a feat will put Boise State in the discussion for the new, expanded, 12-team College Football Playoff format beginning this fall. Last year, Danielson became the first coach in college football history to win a conference championship with an interim title.
