COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Dylan Riley continued the tradition of Boise State running backs winning conference awards, earning Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors for his performance against Portland State. The true freshman carried the ball six times for 96 yards and two touchdowns in his collegiate debut, helping the Broncos defeat the Vikings, 56-14.
Riley capped a 10-play Boise State drive with a 2-yard touchdown in the third quarter, his fourth touch of the drive. In the fourth quarter, he put the finishing touches on the Broncos' offensive outburst, running for a 64-yard touchdown on the first play of the drive. The tailback averaged 16.0 yards per carry, picking up three first downs, as well as 47 yards after contact. He also had a 13-yard reception. The Broncos totaled 609 yards of offense, including 342 on the ground.
Riley is the third Bronco running back to earn a MW weekly award this season. Ashton Jeanty was named Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 2 and Sept. 9 while Sire Gaines was tabbed Freshman of the Week on Sept. 2.
Boise State is ranked 25th in this week's AP Poll, the Broncos' first time cracking the top 25 since 2020. The Broncos host Washington State on The Blue at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. The Cougars received votes in the AP Poll and sit one ranking behind Boise State.

Led by Spencer Danielson in his first full season, Boise State looks to become the first Mountain West program to win back-to-back championships since San Diego State did so in 2015-16. Achieving such a feat will put Boise State in the discussion for the new, expanded, 12-team College Football Playoff format beginning this fall. Last year, Danielson became the first coach in college football history to win a conference championship with an interim title.
