Potter Promoted to Offensive Coordinator

BOISE, Idaho – Nate Potter, Boise State's co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach during this past historic season, has been promoted to offensive coordinator, head coach Spencer Danielson announced on Friday.
A former consensus All-American for the Broncos and NFL player, Potter will take over the play-calling duties for a Boise State offense that finished this year sixth in the nation in scoring offense and eighth in total offense. The rushing offense, behind unanimous All-American and Maxwell Award winner Ashton Jeanty, averaged 240.4 yards on the ground, which was eighth-best in the country.
Potter will replace Dirk Koetter, the team's previous offensive coordinator who will transition into a senior analyst role for Boise State.
"Coach Potter is a rising star in this business," said Danielson. "He truly Bleeds Blue as a Boise State Hall of Famer and one of the best to ever wear the Blue and Orange. I'm grateful for him working closely with Coach Koetter this past year and not only learning from one of the best but taking that opportunity to show his ability to lead and direct an offense. I know he is going to continue to make our offense thrive under his leadership and help us make a positive impact on our players' lives.
"I am also so thankful for Coach Koetter and all that he did for our team this season. I am excited that he will continue to be a part of our staff in a senior analyst role going forward."
In addition to helping oversee one of the nation's top rushing offenses, Potter mentored a tight end group that totaled 762 yards and seven touchdowns on 59 receptions in 2024. Matt Lauter was the leader of the pack as he finished with the most receptions (47) by a Boise State tight end in any of the Broncos' FBS seasons since 1996.
Potter will enter his eighth year on the Boise State coaching staff in 2025. In addition to serving as the co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach in 2024, he was the tight ends coach and run game coordinator in 2022-23. He first served on the Broncos' coaching staff from 2014-17 as a quality control assistant and offensive graduate assistant.
Prior to rejoining his alma mater in 2022, Potter was the tight ends coach at Montana State (2019-21) and offensive line coach at College of Idaho (2018).
Potter's contract is pending Idaho State Board of Education approval.
The Broncos' finished the 2024 season with 12 wins, their most since 2019, and secured the program's first appearance in the College Football Playoff after earning their second straight Mountain West championship under Danielson.
