BOISE, Idaho – After leading Boise State to record numbers in attendance, fundraising, academics and championships, Director of Athletics Jeramiah Dickey has signed a contract extension through the 2028-29 academic year, Boise State Athletics announced on Wednesday.
The new five-year contract, which was approved by the Idaho State Board of Education in December, keeps Dickey at the helm of Boise State Athletics by adding three years to his original five-year deal.
"Jeramiah Dickey's vision, leadership and hard work have helped lift Boise State Athletics to new heights," said Marlene Tromp, Boise State University President. "I am so grateful for his dedication to the university, our community and Broncos everywhere. I am so excited about the future we are building together."
Dickey, who was appointed the Boise State Director of Athletics on January 2, 2021, has seen the Broncos achieve across-the-board success, including 30 team and individual conference championships, more than $70 million raised through fundraising in his first three years, record attendance in nearly every ticketed sport, and several head coaching hires that went on to win championships and earn coach of the year honors.
"My family and I are grateful to stay in Boise and thank Dr. Tromp, the University and the State Board of Education for trusting me," said Dickey. "When we arrived in Boise four years ago, we asked Bronco Nation to believe in EPIC and in a short amount of time, we have been able to achieve some EPIC things along the way. We're never a finished product, but we are bar raisers, and I believe we will continue to raise the bar for Boise State. Our TEAM is incredible, and we're already on to What's Next for Bronco Nation and this special place."
One of Dickey's most significant impacts on Boise State so far has been the implementation of the What's Next Initiative, a strategic roadmap to enhance the trajectory and sustainability of Bronco Athletics. The multi-year plan cements Boise State as a leader in the industry by strengthening four key areas: infrastructure, revenue generation, student-athlete experience and marketability. The initiative has also kept the Broncos ahead of the recent and forthcoming changes in college athletics, including the creation of BroncoPRO to allow Boise State to participate in the implementation of the potential approval of the House settlement in 2025.
Impacting the student-athlete experience through the What's Next Initiative has resulted in team success. In addition to the 30 team and individual conference championships, the Broncos have earned 37 team postseason appearances and 23 All-America honors in the last three-plus years.
This past fall, Boise State football won back-to-back Mountain West championships for the first time in school history, was ranked in the top-10 of the national polls at the conclusion of the regular season, and earned the program's first appearance in the College Football Playoff. All under head coach Spencer Danielson, who Dickey hired in December 2023, the Broncos finished the season with 12 wins, which tied for their most in the last 10 years, and saw Ashton Jeanty become the program's first Maxwell Award winner, Doak Walker Award winner and unanimous All-American.
While Boise State has achieved plenty of competitive excellence, the Broncos have also excelled in the classroom under Dickey. Last spring, the Broncos had a department-record 3.42 GPA, and this past November, it was announced that Boise State had a 96 percent graduation success rate, which was also a department-record. The department had a best in the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate (APR) of 991 last academic year.
Bronco student-athletes have also remained key contributors to the Boise community, as evidenced by them volunteering at nearly 400 events and helping more than 60 local charities and schools last year.
Boise State has undergone more than 50 facility improvements over the last three-plus years, including a renovation of the Boas Soccer Complex and overhaul of the locker rooms in the Varsity Center for beach volleyball, track and field, cross country, and women's golf. One of the larger facility improvements is the construction of the North End Zone Project, which broke ground on January 4 and is set to be complete by the start of the 2026 football season. The $65 million addition to Albertsons Stadium will be a multi-use space that serves all 350+ Boise State student-athletes and creates a number of upgraded seating options for Bronco Nation at football games.
The facility enhancements have been a reflection of Dickey and Boise State's tireless efforts in fundraising during his time. The Broncos have experienced three straight years of 20+ million raised annually, with an all-time single-year fundraising record of $24.1 million in 2022. This past fall, Boise State announced the largest single gift in school history with the Allen and Billie Dee Noble estate gift of $25 million to support Boise State football. It also announced a $1 million anonymous gift to the women's basketball program, which was the second $1 million gift to women's athletics under Dickey.
Another key indicator of momentum in Bronco Nation during Dickey's time has been improved attendance at Boise State events. This past football season, Bronco Nation sold out all seven home football games, had five of the eight-largest crowds in stadium history, and had over 20,000 season tickets sold -- which was an early goal established by Dickey in the What's Next Initiative. Boise State soccer continued its streak of sellouts by bringing the number to 21 this past season while volleyball averaged over 1,000 people for its home schedule once again. In basketball, women's basketball nearly doubled its season ticket base this season while men's basketball sold out its season tickets for the first time.
While Bronco Nation and Bronco student-athletes have achieved success in Dickey's tenure, the Boise State staff has also benefited. Dickey and the Boise State Athletics leadership team launched Broncos United, an internal initiative that focuses on the investment in its most important asset - its people. The initiative touches on six areas - personal, equality and belonging, professional, community, physical and mental - to create a holistic environment of supporting student-athletes, coaches and staff.
