BOISE, Idaho – Former Boise State offensive coordinator Zak Hill will return to the Broncos as the pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach, head coach Spencer Danielson announced. Hill, who spent 2016-19 with the Blue and Orange, was most recently an offensive assistant with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Seahawks had the NFL's eighth-best passing offense in 2024, averaging 236.5 yards per game. Quarterback Geno Smith finished the year ranked fourth in passing yards (4,320) and tied for second in completions (407). Seattle tied for first in the NFC West at 10-7.

Hill's first stint in the Treasure Valley began in 2016, when he was the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The Broncos led the conference in total offense (472.8 ypg) and quarterback Brett Rypien was named first team All-MW. Hill was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2017 and guided the Broncos to wins in the Mountain West Championship and Las Vegas Bowl. Rypien repeated as a first team All-MW selection and Cedrick Wilson set the program record for single-season receiving yards (1,511).

In 2018, Rypien was named MW Offensive Player of the Year and concluded his career as the conference's all-time leader in passing yards (13,581). Alexander Mattison ran for 1,415 yards that season, most in the MW and eighth-most in the FBS. The Broncos won the MW title in 2019, ranking No. 19 in the final College Football Playoff poll of the season.

Hill was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Arizona State from 2020-21, mentoring eventual Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels. In 2023, he led Saguaro HS to a 6A state championship in Arizona.

Before his first tenure at Boise State, Hill was the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Eastern Washington. He spent the 2009-15 seasons with the Eagles, leading the team to five FCS playoff appearances and six Big Sky titles.

A native of Portland, Ore., Hill was an All-American quarterback at Central Washington. He played from 1999-03, compiling 8,882 yards and 76 touchdowns. He was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 2013.

Hill's contract is pending Idaho State Board of Education approval.

The Broncos finished the 2024 season with 12 wins, their most since 2019, and secured the program's first appearance in the College Football Playoff after winning their second-straight MW title under Danielson. Quarterback Maddux Madsen earned All-MW honorable mention and led the conference in passing yards (3,018) and touchdowns (23).
