Riley Smith To Raise Blue Chaos Flag

BOISE, Idaho – Former Boise State football captain and tight end Riley Smith will raise the Blue Chaos Flag ahead of the Broncos' home conference opener against New Mexico on Saturday night.

"It's an extreme honor to raise the Blue Chaos Flag," Smith said. "Boise State's blue-collar mentality and culture is truly special, and I feel blessed to be a part of it. This will be a memory I hold close for the rest of my life."

Smith, who played for Boise State from 2018-2023, helped lead the Broncos to a Mountain West Championship victory over UNLV on Dec. 2, 2023.

"Bronco Nation is unmatched," he said. "Their dedication and support change the outcome of games. Playing under the lights on the Blue, and now joining Bronco Nation in the stands, is the best feeling in the world."

Over his six-year career, Smith recorded 568 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Off the field, he was a five-time Academic All-MW selection and a four-time MW Scholar-Athlete. In 2023, he was named a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy, which recognizes excellence in academics, community service and on-field performance.

"Boise State is home," Smith said. "I knew when I stepped on campus that I was in the right place. This is where I faced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows to become who I am today. So many of my core memories will come from my time here. My teammates, the staff, the fans, and the city of Boise will always be family."

Smith will join the Bronco Tailgate Show at 4:53 p.m. MT before the game against the Lobos. Fans can listen live on KBOI 93.1 FM, 670 AM, and the Varsity Network app, or watch in person in front of the Boise State Hall of Fame.
