BOISE, Idaho – Former Boise State defensive end and current Detroit Lion Ahmed Hassanein will hoist the Blue Chaos Flag before the 2025 Mountain West Championship on Friday night at Albertsons Stadium.
It means everything to me to honor the legends that came before me who have raised the Blue Chaos Flag, Hassanein said. To be chosen to raise it at this game is truly special and a dream come true.
A native of Cairo, Egypt, Hassanein joined the Broncos in 2021. Throughout his four-year career, he was named a Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year finalist in 2024, earned College Football Network honorable mention All-America honors in the same year and was a two-time All-MW first-team selection (2023, 2024).
What makes Boise State special is the blue-collar mentality, Hassanein said. It doesn't matter where or who we play, the team is ready to prove to everybody to never count Boise State out. Put the ball down.
Hassanein played a vital role on the Broncos' 2024 Mountain West championship team, which earned a Fiesta Bowl and College Football Playoff berth. He tied for the team lead in tackles for loss (15.5), accounting for 74 yards, the 10th-most in program history. He also recorded 9.5 sacks, second-most on the 2024 squad, and finished his career with 24, the fourth-most of all time.
Bronco Nation is truly one of a kind, Hassanein said. The love and support I personally received after both good and bad games was truly incredible. It's bigger than football for Bronco Nation. It's a family and that's special.
His standout career earned him a sixth-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions, making him the first Egyptian-born player drafted into the NFL. After suffering a preseason injury, Hassanein was re-signed to the team's practice squad in November.
Hassanein will join Bronco Studios Live on Dec. 5. Fans can watch via the Boise State Broncos YouTube channel.
