BOISE, Idaho – Boise State quarterback Maddux Madsen was tabbed to the Manning Award Watch List, the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced. The award is presented annually to the nation's top quarterback. Madsen is the only Mountain West player on the 27-member watch list.
The MW Preseason Offensive Player of the Year is the first Bronco to earn a spot on the preseason watch list since Brett Rypien, who was featured three times (2016-18). The only other Boise State signal-caller to be included on the watch list is Kellen Moore, who was a three-time finalist (2009-11).
Madsen has also been featured on the Davey O'Brien Award, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award watch lists. He was selected to the Shrine Bowl 1000 Watchlist and earned Preseason All-MW First Team honors from Athlon Sports and Phil Steele. Last season, he was named All-MW Honorable Mention and was a member of the Davey O'Brien Award Quarterback Class of 2024. Following his 307-yard, four-touchdown effort against San Diego State, he was voted a Manning Star of the Week and MW Offensive Player of the Week.
The team captain has a 13-2 record as Boise State's starter, compiling 4,252 yards and 32 touchdowns in 24 career games. In 2024, he threw for a conference-high 3,018 yards and 23 touchdowns. His TD:INT ratio of 23:6 ranks fifth among Manning Award watch list members and is third-highest among those who threw more than 20 touchdowns.
Finalists for the award will be announced between the 2025 conference championships, played Dec. 5-6, and bowl games, which begin Dec. 13. The winner of the 22nd Manning Award will be recognized after the 2026 national championship, held in Miami, Jan. 19.
