Syracuse, NY — Boise State Rocket League remained perfect over the weekend, sweeping Nebraska and Michigan State on the way to a win at the inaugural Spectrum Industries Power Esports Conference Kickoff. The Broncos (3-0), defending PEC champions, opened their title defense with sweeps of last year's semifinalists Nebraska and runner up Michigan State. All four of the finalists from last years championships in Las Vegas were at the event.
Saturday kicked off with a dominant win over Nebraska for Boise State. A hat trick from Preston Ferrante (Prstn) led the Broncos to a 5-1 win, with all three Broncos getting on the score sheet. Game two was more of the same, with Emiliano Flores (Durtho) and Cade Hall (Wuzy) both netting hat tricks of their own on the way to a dominant 9-1 win. If games one and two were dominant, then game three was emphatic. Wuzy scored five goals and Durtho added six assists in a 10-3 win to close the series over the Huskers.
The championship game against Michigan State started as well as it possibly could have for Boise State, with Durtho netting the opening goal inside of 10 seconds for the Broncos. That set the tone for the game, and the Broncos took game one, 3-1 over the Spartans. Game two started nearly identical to game one, with Prstn putting the ball in the net just eight seconds in. Michigan State looked like putting up a fight, cutting the lead to 2-1 halfway through game two, but after the Spartans' Connor Neiheisel (opp_bomb) scored, the Broncos accelerated away and took game two, 5-1. Game three was as close as anyone got to Boise State, as Michigan State held the Broncos to just two goals. Boise State finished game three defending well, and wrapped up the tournament with a 2-0 win.
When all was said and done, Wuzy was named tournament MVP, and the Broncos dominated the field to remain unbeaten. Boise State now enters a bye week in PEC play before facing Syracuse on Sept. 29.. A bye in the opening week of PEC play will give Boise State time to hone their game further, and a rematch with Syracuse on Sept. 29 will be the key focus in PEC this week.
Fast Facts:
The Broncos take on San Jose State on Monday night in Mountain West Play. A bye week in the PEC leads to a clash with Syracuse next week to open official play.
