Phelps Tabbed Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State linebacker Boen Phelps was tabbed the Old Trapper Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced. Phelps recorded a 33-yard interception return for a touchdown while totaling six tackles, including three solo. He also added a quarterback hurry in the 47-14 victory over App State

Phelps and the Broncos held the Mountaineers to 65 passing yards, including two in the second half. Entering the contest, App State ranked third in the nation with 357.7 yards per game. The redshirt sophomore earned a Pro Football Focus defensive grade of 94.4, highest among FBS linebackers and second-best among FBS defenders in Week Five.

This is the first weekly conference award for Phelps, making him the first Bronco to earn the defensive nod since JL Skinner, who was recognized Nov. 21, 2022. Boise State has three weekly awards in 2025, with Phelps joining running backs Sire Gaines (Freshman, Sept. 8) and Dylan Riley (Offensive, Sept. 22).
