BOISE, Idaho – Head coach Spencer Danielson announced the promotion of two assistant coaches on Wednesday. DJ Killings will work as the assistant cornerbacks coach while Justin Udy will serve as the assistant tight ends coach.
Killings will coach the cornerbacks room after working for the Bronco program the past two seasons. He came to the Treasure Valley as a defensive graduate assistant in 2024 before adding the title of assistant secondary coach in 2025.
Last season, Boise State's pass defense finished the season ranked 15th in the nation, allowing 175.6 yards in the air per game. The secondary improved as the season progressed, with the group holding teams under 200 passing yards in seven of the team's final 11 games. All but one of the team's 14 interceptions came from the secondary, including four each from cornerbacks Jeremiah Earby and A'Marion McCoy.
Â
Prior to joining the Broncos, Killings played cornerback professionally for five years (2017-21). During his playing career, he was a member of the New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, Green Bay Packers, Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders and Calgary Stampeders (CFL). In 2018, he was a part of the Eagles' practice squad when Philadelphia won Super Bowl LII against the Patriots. Killings initially signed as an undrafted free agent in 2017 by the New England Patriots.
Udy will return to the staff as the tight ends coach after serving as an offensive analyst and assistant quarterbacks coach for the Broncos program a year ago.
In 2025, Boise State generated over 500 yards of offense five times, the most in a single season since 2018. The Broncos had three passing games with over 300 yards and were one of five schools across the country with multiple players throwing for over 300 yards in a single game.
Â
Prior to Boise State, Udy coached five seasons (2020-24) at Montana State. He served as the wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator for the final three seasons and helped the Bobcats reach the FCS Playoffs four times, including a national runner-up finish in 2021.
Udy was the offensive quality control coach/quarterbacks at Texas Tech in 2019, with the Red Raiders finishing the season ranked seventh nationally in passing yards per game with 324.7 yards per game. Prior to his time in Lubbock, Udy worked as the defensive administrative assistant and linebackers coach at Utah State.
Before Utah State, Udy worked three seasons at South Dakota School of Mines (2015-17) as the assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. He coached Jace Billingsley, who played in the NFL for the Detroit Lions and New England Patriots.
