Program-defining greats to be permanently etched alongside Lyle Smith

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State Athletics will turn The Blue into a prominent tribute this fall, unveiling new field markings that honor two of the most transformational players in program history, Ashton Jeanty and Kellen Moore.

When the new turf is installed this summer at Albertsons Stadium, orange sideline hash marks will be placed at the 2-yard and 11-yard lines, on both sides of the field, in reference to the jersey numbers that Jeanty and Moore wore as Broncos. The permanent orange markings link the Boise State legends to Lyle Smith Field where they helped build Boise State's national identity, alongside the legendary coach, known as the father of Bronco football.

Additional elements to Lyle Smith Field at Albertsons Stadium will further celebrate Boise State pride and its future, including a state-of-Idaho outline at the 35-yard lines for kickoffs, tied to the department mantra as the Front Porch of Idaho, and an all-white Pac-12 logo. The redesigned field will be ready for the 2026 Bronco football season and be a part of Boise State's 40th Anniversary celebration of The Blue.

"Similar to Lyle Smith, Ashton and Kellen didn't just help us win a lot of games, they changed what was possible for Boise State football," said Director of Athletics Jeramiah Dickey. "We wanted to create something EPIC to celebrate their impact. This is more than a tribute; it is a permanent reminder of the standard they set."

Jeanty cemented his place among the all-time greats with one of the most remarkable seasons in college football history, posting the second-highest single-season rushing total ever and finishing as the 2024 Heisman Trophy runner-up. He was also the Maxwell Award and Doak Walker Award winner during the Broncos' first College Football Playoff season. The current member of the Las Vegas Raiders is the highest NFL Draft pick - sixth overall in the 2025 Draft - in program history.

Moore's legacy is unmatched in consistency and excellence. A four-time first-team All-American and the program's first Heisman Trophy finalist, he led the Broncos to a staggering 50-3 record as a starting quarterback, finishing his career as the winningest quarterback in college football history. Moore, who won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2024 season as the offensive coordinator, is the current head coach of the New Orleans Saints.

Together, the two Boise State Heisman finalists did not just rewrite the record books, they further defined the culture. Their work ethic, leadership, and relentless drive embodied the blue-collar spirit that continues to fuel the program.

With these new markings, every game at Albertsons Stadium will carry a deeper meaning, connecting the past to the future, and ensuring that the legacy of two Bronco legends remains embedded in The Blue for generations to come.

The Broncos will install blue FieldTurf Vertex CORE this summer. Vertex CORE is designed to deliver the perfect combination of performance, safety, and durability. Equipped with two legendary FieldTurf fibers, the Classic HD slit-film fiber and the CORE monofilament super fiber, the system delivers leading agility, endurance, and aesthetics.

It will be the seventh edition of The Blue at Albertsons Stadium.
